WordPress 2.1 Ella was just release yesterday (1/22) and includes over 550 bug fixes in addition to new features. This is definitely worth an upgrade.

We just completed our upgrade to WordPress 2.1 Ella. If you are running WordPress, you should check out the updates and changes. The upgrade process is simple and painless. Just follow the instructions and it shouldn’t take long. Always remember to back up all files and your data before the upgrade. We did not have any problems or issues but it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Everything seems to be working so far and all our plugins and widgets are functioning correctly. No tweaks or new plugins were necessary for our upgrade. However, you should verify your other plugins to make sure they will work with 2.1 before starting the process.

Came across this at Widgets Lab. Some of you might remember Duck Hunt from the old Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Here’s a Flash widget version of the game.

Update (2007.3.5): Flash embed and links removed. Source appears to have changed.

It’s much harder than we remember it… But, we’ll blame the lack of accuracy of the mouse as compared to the original NES Zapper (light gun).

Widgify has a couple of posts on start pages becoming widget management systems and allowing export of their widgets outside of their domains. Here are the Widgify posts on Pageflakes and yourminis.

It’s good to see these companies moving in this direction. We took a look at the offerings and noticed one major difference. The Flakes from Pageflakes are exported in HTML code snippets while the minis are Flash widgets. This means that the Flakes will be limited in where they can be used (social networks do not allow this type of code) and the minis can be used just about anywhere (MySpace, Stickam, blogs, etc).

It will be interesting to see where these two companies take this and if other start page companies will follow.
