AutoRoll – Automatic Blogroll Recommendations

February 14th, 2007 Leave a comment Go to comments

We’ve been testing AutoRoll by Criteo. Criteo is a recommendation engine and service and AutoRoll is their widget that provides blogs with an automatic blogroll based on the Criteo recommendations. In the short amount of time we have had the widget installed; it appears to be functioning correctly.

Sexy Widget, Widgets Lab and Widgetoko regularly make an appearance on our AutoRoll widget. The other recommended blogs are not always relevant. Our guess is that it’s a combination of the small number of relevant widget blogs in the network and the short amount of time the Criteo engine has had to gather data on our site and traffic. As the AutoRoll network grows and the Criteo recommendation engine collects more data, the AutoRoll should become more accurate and relevant.

Overall, the first impression is good. However, we are not sure if it will replace our standard blogroll. If a site is relevant and interesting, we would have most likely already added the blog to our own list.

With new blogs springing up everyday, it is very likely that we will miss these. This is where the AutoRoll widget could come in handy.

Sexy Widget has a good post on AutoRoll and we pretty much agree with all points. So, rather than rehash everything, just head over there and see what they have to say.
