Avatar for Your Profile Image
Apr 12 2007If you are like us and don’t always want to use a real picture for your profile image on all the various social networks, here is a cool avatar generator. The generator will create a cartoon like avatar and is full of custom options for the image. It’s easy to use, with one exception.
Once you have the avatar looking the way you want it. You must do a screen capture on the page, then copy/paste into an editing program (such as Paint or Photoshop), crop and save. It would have been nice if this tool could have saved the image for you.
It would have been better if they widgetized this, but they did not. So, rather than use the tool inappropriately we have provided a screencap below. Click through to the site to use the avatar generator.
We assume the lack of a widget is partially due to monetization of the service. What they could have done is advertise within the widget. For example, on the “Glasses” customization have an ad for Oakley. Another option (while more difficult) would be to save the avatars to an avatar gallery and have users go to the gallery page to pick-up their creations. The gallery pages can be monetized with ads. Just a few of our thoughts.
