The AddThis Sharebar was released into beta back on December 17, 2009. We’ve played around with it on a couple of sites and generally it’s been a good experience. Getting the code and deploying on a site is dead simple, just copy and paste some code. Out of the box you get the all the sharing features as you would expect. One of the features we really liked is the personalized services feature. What that does is it presents a list of personalized sharing options based on the user. So, if I share to Twitter more frequently than any other service, the Twitter icon would be the first option. You don’t have to lock yourself into a specific list of services, just let AddThis manage the personalized list of top services for each individual.
There were a couple of things we thought AddThis could have done better on. While there are a good number of customizations and options available, we felt that it could be expanded. For example, something like a fixed width on the Sharebar to match that of the site. The AddThis staff have indicated they are evaluating more customization options and will add them as appropriate.
Saw a post over at Widgets Lab today on a movie trailer widget. While it was interesting, there where a few things that were lacking.
So, it got us thinking about a site we ran across awhile ago. The site Trailer Addict had a large library of good/high quality trailers and a free API to boot. With a little bit of work we threw together a quick movie trailers widget.
TrailerAddict was created for those who understand what it means to be a fan of movie trailers. Getting to the theater early on purpose, we are bound by the knowledge that trailers are (at times) better than the films they represent. TrailerAddict has been built not for those who like a good trailer now and then, but those who understand that the need to watch trailers is a state of mind.
This is not a widget related post. But, in light of some comments regarding our last post on the cheap gas widget, here’s a post on where to find alternative fuel filling stations near you.
We try to be green here and we know many of our readers do too.
So, for those of you interested in green cars and are looking for filling stations to power your green car, check out www.greencar.com and their Alternative Fuel Filling Station tool. BTW, this would be a great tool to widgetize and build an iPhone app for…
Many of us take advantage of these sites and services. Now it’s time to show our support to keep the music on.
Grab your own widget, show your support and spread the word…
Not to be out done by the recent press release of RockYou’s $35M round of funding, KickApps and Clearspring announces a partnership to “ACCELERATE
WIDGET CREATION, DISTRIBUTION AND ADVERTISING.”
We’ve not seen any of the KickApps Widget Studio beta or features that spawn out of this partnership, so this is a very interesting development and we’ll keep an eye on it.
