Stay Up-To-Date With NBC Olympic Widgets

August 8th, 2008 7 comments

Here are some great widgets to keep you up-to-date on the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Below are a couple of examples with a few more available from the NBC Olympics website.

While it’s nice to have different widgets to accommodate different users and websites, we would have liked to see a single widget that could deliver the content of all 7 widgets combined. User interface is always a difficult thing to deal with due to the limited size of widgets. However, in this case the NBC Olympic widgets are a decent size and there are already several rows of controls. A left/right scrolling menu system could have easily added the functionality to provide more content.

March Madness NCAA Tournament Bracket Widget Updated

March 28th, 2008 No comments

It’s been a great NCAA Tournament and as we now have the Elite Eight, our widget has been updated. The widget will now by default load with the Elite Eight bracket view. However, we have added the ability for you to specify which view you would like as the default view for your own widget. You will be presented with a selection screen when you try to grab the embed code or try to post the widget to a social network or site.

You can select from the EAST, MIDWEST, SOUTH, WEST or ELITE EIGHT brackets as the default view. Also, if you decide to change he default view later, just grab the code again and select the new view as the default.

Update (2009-12-25): Widget removed due to changes in the Clearspring Platform and lack of interest in this widget.

Don’t forget, this widget is enabled as a Facebook App.

Track Your NCAA Tournament Bracket in a Widget

March 25th, 2008 No comments

One of our readers dropped us a link to a NCAA Tournament bracket tracker. The widget is distributed via WidgetBox and comes with the usual host of features provided by their platform.

You start off by selecting the teams for your bracket. To do this, all you have to do is step through the choices presented to you and in seconds (or minutes if you’re indecisive) the bracket will be filled out for you. Grab the code or sent to your favorite location via the WidgetBox distribution tool.

The widget will display your bracket selections with indications of whether you’re correct or not. It’s a pretty straight forward and simple tool for keeping track of and showing off your tournament bracket selections. There’s no registration or special requirements so it’s easy to setup and use.

Tourney Madness (description from about page):

Choose who you think will win in this year’s NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

User the bracket builder to make your selection, put the widget on your site, share with your friends!

This widget keeps track of what you got right and what you go wrong and keeps track of your score.

BTW, those aren’t really our picks. It’s just the highest seeded teams…

March Madness NCAA Tournament Bracket Widget

March 21st, 2008 No comments

We’ve been looking, but haven’t found any good widgets for the NCAA Tournament. If anyone knows of any, please let us know. In the meantime, we’ve built a pretty simple widget that displays the tournament bracket. The widget will auto update the bracket every 60 seconds.

Feel free to grab the widget for yourself. This was built for ourselves so don’t expect too much. However, we may update the widget occasionally.

March Madness is well underway, don’t miss any of the action…

Update (2009-12-25): Widget removed due to changes in the Clearspring Platform and lack of interest in this widget.

Update #1: in-progress game times were added along with making this a Tournament Bracket Facebook App

Update #2: clicking on a game will open up FOX Sports Game Trax for that game in a new window
