jobFinder Widget a Job Search Mashup

May 23rd, 2008 3 comments

We had a quick exchange of comments over at widgetBeat a couple of weeks ago, following their review of the SimplyHired widget. During the comments, the thought of a job search mashup widget proved interesting. After finding some spare time, we were able prototype a functional widget. While the widget is mostly functional, it is more of a prototype and academic exercise than anything else. Keep that in mind if you choose to use this widget.

The jobFinder Widget is a mashup of 3 different services.

Searches are run against each of the services and the results are displayed in the widget.

Click on a job title to view a summary of the position. For more details from the source site, click on the “more details” button and a new page will open with the complete listing.

Whenever someone grabs the widget for themselves they will have the opportunity to set the size and default search criteria for their widget.

As always, feedback and comments are welcomed.

Update (2009-11-09): Widget removed due to changes in Amazon API and lack of interest in this widget.

SimplyHired Job Search Widget

widgetBeat has a good review of the SimplyHired job search widget. Rather than duplicate the effort, here’s a snippet of the review to wet your appetite. Check out widgetBeat for the full review and other widget news.

“The widget allows you to search for jobs using your choice of search words in any U.S. location. You can assign any mileage radius around that location, and to search the entire U.S., just leave the location and radius fields empty. The widget saves your searches so you can access any of your searches quickly form the Menu button.

The widget is based on the same job search engine used at the site.”

You can compare and contrast the SimplyHired widget to the nPost Startups job search widget that we reviewed back in February.
